8 days Discovering the Land of Parana
Iguassu Falls, Curitiba & Atlantic Rainforest (Coast of Paraná)
This trip will take you to some of the most important and spectacular ecosystems in Paraná. You will experience the incomparable Iguassu Falls. After this you will begin the adventure to the most remote places in the region, old trails and cascades in the heart of the Atlantic Rainforest, and Honey Island.
Day 01. Iguassu Arrival in Foz do Iguassu and transfer to the hotel. Day 02. Iguassu Van to Puerto Iguassu to visit the Argentinean Side of the falls. The conflux of Brazil’s Rio Iguassu (Iguassu River) and Rio Paraná (Paraná River) tumbles over a basalt plateau, dividing into fingers, or catarata, of water in numbers and force that indeed prevents any antediluvian purists remaining out there to deny gravity’s existence. Day 03. Iguassu Today we’ll visit the Brazilian Side of the Falls and the Birds Park, considered an ecological sanctuary. It is located near the Iguaçu National Park in a 17-hectare area of native woods. A paved trail leads visitors to the enormous aviaries that blend in with the forest. After lunch we’ll visit the Itaipu Hydroelectric. The hydroelectric plant is owned jointly by Brazil and Paraguay and is the largest electric power generator in the world, was elected one of the seven wonders of the modern world. After dinner we board the evening bus to Curitiba. Day 04. Curitiba & Morretes Arrival in Curitiba in the early morning and we board the train for an incredible ride across the Atlantic rainforest to Marumbi Peak Station. The ''Serra Verde Express'' is one of Brazil's most famous train rides. Beautiful rainforests, rivers and superb mountain scenery make for an exciting and spectacular journey along this magnificent old railway. After lunch at the small historical town of Morretes we will spend the day relaxing at the lodge or doing activities around the Nhundiaquara River. Day 05. Morretes – Pau Oco State Park After breakfast at the lodge, well explore the atlantic rainforest of the Pau Oco State Park, trekking to Fortuna’s Fall, riding through rural villages and roads. Time to swim and observe the incredible biodiversity of this area before we go back to the historical center of Morretes. Day 06. Paranaguá & Ilha do Mel A short ride this morning brings us to the city of Paranaguá, built on the shores of a huge bay, 29 kilometers island from the sea. Paranaguá is a colorful city with an old section at the waterfront that has an ambience of tropical decadence. The city is one of the chief ports for the exportation of coffee beans and was founded in 1585. We take a boat trip where we’ll take a look at the region rich fauna and flora – including the dolphins at the Ilha das Peças (Pieces Island) before we arrive at Ilha do Mel. Day 07Day 07. Ilha do Mel After breakfast we’ll have free time to enjoy the paradisiacal beaches of Honey Island. It’s a place fulfilled with the magic of the nature. There we visit the historical fortress that was built to protect the country during the battles and at the lighthouse we’ll have the best view of the island area. Day 08. Ilha do Mel, Paranaguá & Curitiba We ride back on the boat to Paranaguá and then get on a van to Curitiba. Our trip ends in Curitiba.
