7 day Backpacking with Huskies in the Yukon, Canada
Scenic day hike and overnight at home cabins, 7 day/ 6 night backpacking trip with pack dogs to a secluded lake.
Hike through remote wilderness with a group of huskies as companions. The dogs run loose and carry most of the food and gear. What a way to go, great adventure!

Day 1 – We pick you up in Whitehorse between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m. and drive out the North Klondike Highway to Lake Laberge.  We then take a five and a half mile boat ride across the lake to our family’s wilderness home and sled dog kennel.  After lunch, we take an afternoon hike on high ridges overlooking the lake, accompanied by the dogs who will join us on our expedition.  We return home for a cookout supper at the lakeshore.   Overnight is in tent or cabin.
Day 2
– We begin our backpacking trip.  Our pack dog companions carry the food and tents, so you only need to carry your personal items – clothing, sleeping bag, etc.  This night our camp is beside a beautiful lake with brilliant blue water.  After setting up camp, we can relax in camp or go swimming, or we can hike without backpacks up a nearby hill for a view of the surrounding area.
Day 3
– This day, our trail takes us along several little lakes before we reach our creek-side campsite.  Nearby the camp, there is a tiny waterfall with a little pool below it for those who want a cold “whirlpool bath” after the day’s activities.
Day 4
– We usually make this a shorter day, taking a relaxing morning in camp and cooking a bannock breakfast over the campfire, then arriving early at the next camp at a secluded lake we call Rosa’s.   It is a nice place to swim or nap in your tent overlooking the lake or sit under a tree and read a book
Day 5
– This day takes us through forested areas and along a creek valley.  Our campsite is at Boulder Bend beside a wide swift-flowing creek.
Day 6
– We have the choice of a lazy morning around camp or hiking without backpacks up a ridge overlooking the valley, before we leave for home.  Or, we can leave camp early and arrive home in time to go canoeing, spend time at the lake, or, temperature permitting, have a dog team ride or demonstration.  (The dogs pull 4-wheeled ATV’s for summer training.) – Option of a hike Day 7 without backpacks up a low mountainside for a beautiful view of Lake Laberge.  Return to Whitehorse in the afternoon.
