| Dog Sled Tours with Cathers Adventures | ||
| If you really want to
experience the wilderness and the fantastic beauty of the Yukon
in Winter, dog sledding (mushing) is the only way to go. This is
the real adventure with real people. These are fantastic trips
and the memories will be with you forever. Cathers Wilderness Adventures is a two-generation family business located on the east side of Lake Laberge – 5-1/2 miles across the lake from our nearest neighbors, and the nearest road. The family welcomes winter guests into their family and wilderness lifestyle, and will help you learn to drive dog teams within your own comfort level. You not only get a taste of dog mushing, but also the “spirit of the north,” and you will find a special appreciation for the dogs who are our partners and members of the family |

| January Program 7 Day
Adventurer Tour: You will be picked up between 10:00 and 10:30
at your hotel in Whitehorse or at the airport and drive 30 miles
(50 km) to Lake Laberge, where you will switch to dog teams for
the 5 1/2 mile (9 km) trek across Lake Laberge to the wilderness
home and cabins. After a hot lunch, you have a “mushing school”
session, discussing and practicing techniques of driving a dog
team and sled on hill and forest trails in the next days.
On days 2 and 3, as sled driving skills increase, you can progress to larger teams and more challenging trails. You can look forward to picnic lunches or campfire cook-outs. Overnights are in the home cabins. On days 4, 5, and 6 you will have the option of taking a dog sled expedition of one or two nights out to a cabin or tent camp. (Wall tents or Arctic Oven tents heated by wood stove can be quite comfortable even down to very cold temperatures.) On Day 7 , you will travel back across Lake Laberge by dog team or snow machine and on to your hotel in Whitehorse. |
