22 day Yukon Snake River Explorer
This canoe tour is a truly wilderness expedition through the magnificent alpine valleys of the Snake River. The headwaters of the Snake are only accessible by floatplane, and the legendary Beaver or Otter aircraft takes us through the sheer magnitude of the Mackenzie Mountains into the Duo Lakes. The Snake is probably the finest class 2+ white water river that originates in the Yukon, with a few class 3 rapids which are quite easy to portage.

One of the benefits of the remoteness, aside from the lack of people around, is the wildlife encounters that can be expected. Grizzly bear and wolf are very common in the area, and many of the animals have never seen a human being. Plenty of time on the river has been allowed for taking fine hikes and trips of exploration into the incredible mountain ranges and for setting foot on various prominent, but unnamed peaks.
The fishing for Dolly
Varden and Arctic Grayling is excellent in the Snake River and in the numerous mountain creeks.
Some 300 kilometres
down river the Snake flows into the mighty Peel River. The small Sub-Arctic village of Fort McPherson, the first sign of civilization, marks the end of this superb and unforgettable wilderness canoe expedition.
Our van
takes us south on the Dempster Highway to Dawson City and later back to Whitehorse.
