Day 1: Arrive to a traditional welcome, transfer to hotel and
O/N Chennai. Day 2: Chennai sightseeing and traditional Thali meal (large selection of gravies, chutneys and condiments) at "Anna Lakshmi". O/N Chennai Day 3: Visit the temples at Kanchipuram, and a silk weaving centre, drive to Mahabalipuram, with a range of beachfront restaurants where you can select your own fish and choose the way you would like it cooked. O/N Mahabalipuram Day 4: Sightseeing of Mahabalipuram and visit to Dakshinachitra Cultural Centre. O/N Mahabalipuram Day 5: Drive to Trichy, visit the Sri Rangam and Rock Fort Temples for great views over the city and Cauvery River at sunset. O/N Trichy Day 6: Proceed to Tanjore; visit the Big Temple, Palace and Art Gallery, Gangaikondacholapuram and Darasuram Temples. O/N Tanjore Day 7: Drive to Karraikudi heart of the Chettinad district famous for its unique cuisine and architecture. O/N Karraikudi Day 8: Visit the markets learning about local ingredients, vegetables and selection of seasonal items. Later enjoy a cooking demonstration and/or lessons to prepare your own meal! O/N Karraikudi Day 9: Drive to Madurai, visiting Meenakshi Temple and Tirumalai Nayak Palace, bazaars and vegetable market. O/N in Madurai Day 10: Drive through lush agricultural areas to Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, visit the Spice Market at Theni one of the largest in South India, and a spice garden. Afternoon boat ride, evening performance of traditional Kathakali Dancing O/N Thekkady Day 11: Drive to Kalaketty Estate, a homestead set amidst a 150 acre spread of coffee, cocoa, vanilla, and vegetable cultivation. With delicious meals prepared from locally grown ingredients this is another culinary delight in a trip studded with them. O/N Kalkatty Estate Day 12: Descend from the hills to Kumarakom and board your Deluxe Houseboat, O/N on the houseboat Day 14: Disembark and drive to Cochin. Guided tour of Fort Cochin and evening demonstration of "Kalaripayyatu", traditional Keralan Martial Arts, O/N Cochin Day 15: Visit fish market and the home of Mrs Nimmy Paul a renowned Keralan Chef. Enjoy a traditional "Sadhya" served on a banana leaf, an extensive meal usually served at weddings and other festivals. Nimmy will explain the traditions and history behind the dishes. During the afternoon Nimmy will lead a cooking demonstration in which you can participate in preparation of a special dinner. O/N Cochin Day 16: Free day in Cochin and evening transfer to the airport for departure This price includes all transfers and transport by private air-conditioned vehicle with driver, all hotel accommodation, all breakfasts, all guide services, all entrance fees, boat ride at Periyar, Kathakali dance performance, Kalari Payattu demonstration, Cooking demonstration and dinner at the home of Nimmy Paul and at Chettinad Mansion, all meals at Kalaketty Estate.
