While it Visits the places of Buddha's birth, enlightenment, first teaching and death, this itinerary also covers some of India's most sacred and holy places. You will enjoy a dawn boat ride on the sacred Ganges, spend time at Dharamsala, the home of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the major Tibetan community in India, and take in India's 'Golden Triangle' as well. | |

Day 1 Arrive to a traditional welcome, transfer to hotel, O/N
Delhi Day 2 Sightseeing in Delhi before boarding the overnight train to Pathankot, O/N on the Train Days 3-7 Drive 3 hours to Dharamsala where the Tibetan community have made their home since the Chinese occupation of their country. Over the next 5 days visit monasteries, the Tibetan Children's Village, (home to 2300 refugee children), the Astro and Medical Institute preserving Tibetan medicine and enjoy a Cultural Show by the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts. There are beautiful short walks in the area to temples and waterfalls and a host of Tibetan crafts on sale, O/N Dharamsala Day 8 This evening drive to Pathankot for overnight train to Agra, O/N on the Train Day 9 Arrive in Agra at lunchtime and visit Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal as the sun is setting. The white marble changes colour with different light conditions, O/N Agra Day 10 AM dive to Fatehpur Sikri and on to Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary, PM boat ride or cycle rickshaw ride in the sanctuary, O/N Bharatpur Day 11 Drive to Jaipur, and PM sightseeing, O/N Jaipur Day 12 AM visit the Amber Fort and afternoon at leisure to explore the markets within the old walled city, O/N Jaipur. Day 13 Morning free then transfer to the train travelling to Varanasi, O/N on the Train Day 14 Arrive in Varanasi mid morning. Afternoon visit to Sarnath, where Buddha gave the first sermon to his initial four students, O/N Varanasi Day 15 Dawn boat ride on the Ganges, PM at leisure to explore the colourful and bustling markets, then take the evening train to Bodhgaya, O/N in Bodhgaya Day 16 Visit the Mahabodhi Temple and Bodhi Tree, the place of Buddha's enlightenment. Many Buddhist countries also have their own Temples here, full of colour and devotion. We visit the Japanese, Chinese and Tibetan Temples as well as the huge Buddha statue built by Japanese Buddhists, O/N Bodhgaya Day 17 Full day at leisure exploring Bodhgaya, O/N Bodhgaya Day 18 Drive to Patna via Rajgir and Nalanda. Rajgir is small mountain range sacred to Hindus, Buddhists and Muslims. At the top the Japanese have erected a Peace Stupa with Buddha in his four significant poses. We travel to the top by cable car. Nalanda is the site of an ancient and extensive university dating back to the 1st Century AD, renowned for its large student population and brilliant professors. Arrive in Patna and catch late evening flight to Delhi, O/N Delhi Day 19 Full day at leisure in Delhi until you are transferred to the airport for your connecting flight. This price includes all transfers and transport by private air-conditioned vehicle with driver, all hotel accommodation, all breakfasts, all guide services, all entrance fees, two overnight train trips.
