Extensions to this itinerary can include:
A trip to Gujarat in India's west, visiting Sasangir Wildlife Sanctuary and the Raan of Kutch. Sasangir — a tapestry of dry deciduous forests, acacia scrub and grassland, fed by rivers and reservoirs — is the last refuge of the Asiatic Lion as well as a host of other large mammals and a dazzling array of bird species. The Raan of Kutch is a very different habitat — a vast area of salt marsh which is home to the rare khur, or Asiatic wild ass and massive flocks of flamingos among other birds. This is a 5-7 day trip.
A visit to Kaziranga National Park in Assam the north-east. This park supports a significant population of Indian rhino and a host of other wildlife. This too is a 5-7 day extension.
