If you want to see the natural beauty of southern India look no further than this with lots of time to enjoy stunning scenery, trekking in forests, jeep safaris in search of elephant, leopard and tiger; this is the wild side of India, with just a taste of city life thrown in.
Day 1 Arrive to a traditional welcome, transfer to hotel, O/N Cochin Day 2 AM sightseeing of Cochin, drive to Kumarakom, O/N Backwater Resort Day 3 Visit Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary by boat, PM at leisure, sunset cruise, O/N Backwater Resort Day 4 Drive to Periyar, PM Spice Tour and Bullock Cart ride, O/N Periyar Day 5 Full Day for trekking and rafting trip in the National Park, O/N Periyar (option for full day trekking with overnight camping in the jungle) Day 6 Periyar to Munnar and visit Eravikulam National Park, home to the endangered Nilgiri Thar, a striking mountain goat endemic to these hills, O/N Munnar Day 7 AM for guided trekking, PM sightseeing, O/N Munnar Day 8 Munnar to Mettupalayam via Coimbatore, O/N Mettupalayam Day 9 Early morning train ride up the mountain railway to Coonoor. The Nilgiri Mountain Railway is one of the great engineering marvels of the world you will have spectacular views as the train winds through the hills. On arrival at Coonoor, you will be met and transferred to your homestay accommodation in a spectacular setting on the edge of a tea plantation, O/N Coonoor Day 10 Day in and around Coonoor and Ooty former British hill stations with tea plantations set amongst high peaks and deep valleys. Options for trekking, tribal visits and sightseeing, O/N Coonoor Day 11 Drive to Wild Canopy at Mudamalai and check into your tree house, built 15 metres above the ground. Take an afternoon jeep safari in search of wildlife. O/N Wild Canopy, Mudamalai Day 12 A full day to enjoy the private reserve around the resort with further jeep safaris and/or trekking with a naturalist. O/N Wild Canopy, Mudamalai Day 13 Morning jeep safari then drive to Mysore, PM Sightseeing, O/N Mysore Day 14 Excursion to Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary situated on an island in the Cauvery River where dozens of resident and migratory species can be seen. PM at leisure to visit Maharaja's Palace or for shopping, O/N Mysore Day 15 Drive to Nagarhole National Park and stay at Kabini River Lodge in the reserve.
